TriYoga

I’ve been a passionate student and practitioner of yoga for 30 years, and a teacher for 25 years, registered with the Yoga Alliance. I’ve received a broad and thorough education from expert yoga teachers of varied styles and perspectives, including Mark Sandler, Francois Raoult, Esther Myers, Victor Van Kooten, Angela Farmer, Leslie Kaminoff, and Kali Ray. I resonated particularly deeply with Kali Ray’s meditative, feminine, flowing approach, which she calls TriYoga™, and completed two levels of certification with her in 2003 / 2009. I’ve taught TriYoga since then.

Through Modern Nature Bodyworks, I offer an innovative approach to teaching yoga. We begin each class with functional movement sequences.  Not only does this prepare the student to drop in and enjoy their TriYoga flows with ease, it gradually strengthens and mobilizes the body to improve daily activities.

TriYoga is a complete system of hatha yoga characterized by a meditative flow that unites posture, breath, and mudra—a gesture of the hands and fingers. Developed by the yogini, Kali Ray, TriYoga utilizes rhythmic pacing, relaxation-in-action, and wavelike spinal movements to cultivate natural alignment, strength, flexibility, endurance, and a longer, more rhythmic breath.

In harmony with my desire to contribute to healthy aging, I offer the first two levels of TriYoga: Basics (Foundations) and Level 1.  My classes are particularly designed with students aged 50 and older in mind.

Within each of these two levels, we cover these three flows::

1. Basics Flow is for those new to TriYoga and for those who want to strengthen their core alignments.  Basics is the necessary foundation for all classes. It is also a complete practice in itself.

 2. Earth Flow is designed to free the hips. Focused on creating mobility and energy in the hips, legs, feet, and toes, this class brings awareness and vitality to the entire pelvic region. Earth Flow will leave you feeling more grounded and more comfortable in your gait.

 3. Water Flow is designed to free the spine. The class emphasizes wavelike spinal movements that increase strength and durability along the spine, throughout the torso, and in the shoulders and arms. This class will have you standing tall and breathing easy.

The asana has the power to cleanse, realign, heal. The yoga practice should lead to this nourishment
— Yogini Kaliji (Kali Ray) — Founder of TriYoga® (1980 - present)

At the end of class today, I felt so much ease in my thoracic spine. I am always amazed at what some simple movements can do for the human body. I have been with your yoga program for 16 years. It has been a very good thing
in my life!
